If you're anything like me you've been frustrated by the necessity to choose between portability and high quality when buying headphones. The typical pair of compact and portable earbuds compromise sound quality for convenience and compactness. The typical pair of over-the-ear headphones, however, is clunky and cumbersome, and a pain in the neck to carry around when using it. Koss Portapro Headphones strike a good balance between those two extremes, giving you the best of both worlds.
Unlike most portable headphones, the Portapro headphones feature a headband to hold the earphones comfortably in place over the ears. But the great thing about this headband is that it is collapsible, meaning that you can slide it inside the earphone cups, effectively making the item smaller for easier storage and transport. And Portapro comes with a carrying case, adding to their convenience and protability. With big pairs of over-the-ear headphones people often end up throwing them in their bag where they keep get bashed around take a beating, or alternatively they end up wearing them around their neck all day. Maybe that creates a hip image for some of us, but for others it just looks silly.
Their sound quality is superb, with a full sound with spectacular bass that is deep while remaining clear. They also offer crystal clear highs, and I have never noticed any distortion. But it should be noted that these have no noise cancellation feature, so surrounding sounds are audible. These may not be the best headphones for a noisy environment, because you will have to crank them up really high to enjoy the sound uninhibited. And perhaps more important than that, these leak sound so people around you can hear a lot of noise from your headphones.
